Jean-François Cornu is a professional translator specialising in subtitling and the translation of books on cinema and art from English into French. He is also an independent film researcher focusing on the history and practice of film translation, among other topics. In 2014, he published Le doublage et le sous-titrage: histoire et esthétique, a historical and aesthetic study of dubbing and subtitling in France, and in 2019, The Translation of Films 1900–1950 with Carol O’Sullivan. He is a member of ATAA and ATLF, the French associations of audiovisual and literary translators, and corepresents ATAA within AVTE, the European federation of audiovisual translators’ associations.
